The course is delivered as an online engineering course, consisting of two 20 credit units. The first unit is a recommended unit which is designed to deliver some fundamental learning required to progress onto the second, specific core unit.
Unit 1: Quality, Process Capability, and Process Improvement (recommended*)- In this unit you will learn the essential knowledge and skills to analyze and improve manufacturing processes, ensuring quality control and process optimization. Students will learn about statistical process control, process capability analysis, and process improvement techniques,
Unit 2: Manufacturing Systems and Lean Manufacturing (core) – This unit covers the principles of lean manufacturing and how to apply them to improve manufacturing systems. Students will learn the principles of a manufacturing production system, what is meant by the lean manufacturing philosophy, and the specific toolbox of lean tools such as value stream mapping, elimination of waste, Poke-Yoke, SMED and others.
* The recommended unit can be replaced by a different unit of your choice depending on your personal preference, or previous learning experience.
