03 Engineering Science
Level 4 - Online Engineering Course Unit
The aim of this online engineering course unit is to introduce you to the basics of engineering science. Engineering is a multi-disciplinary discipline that applies accepted scientific theory to the design, development, maintenance and analysis of structures, machines, systems and processes. Therefore, engineers need a broad knowledge of science so that it may be applied to the world around them.
This unit introduces you to the fundamental laws and applications of the physical sciences within engineering and how to apply this knowledge to find solutions to a variety of engineering problems.
The aim of this unit is to develop your skills in scientific principles and theories that underpin the broader engineering curriculum. You will be introduced to scientific methods and techniques to analyse and solve problems within an engineering context.
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to employ scientific principles within a variety of engineering scenarios.
During this unit, you will cover the below four learning outcomes:
LO1: Understand the scientific framework for engineering
LO2: Understand the principles of heat and fluids as applied to engineering systems
LO3: Understand the principles of materials science as applied to engineering and manufacturing systems
LO4: Understand and apply the principles of electricity
