Level 4 - Online Engineering Course Unit

Unit Aim

The aim of this online engineering course unit is to introduce you to the basics of aerospace structures. Aerospace engineering is a multi-disciplinary subject that applies engineering principles to the design, development and analysis of aerospace structures and systems.

The knowledge and application of these principles is used by engineers for the design, analysis and production of aerospace machines, systems and vehicles. Therefore, it is essential that all aerospace engineers have a good working knowledge of the under-pinning principles of the subject.

This unit introduces you to the fundamental laws and applications of aerospace structures and how to apply this knowledge to find solutions to a variety of aerospace engineering problems.

You will be introduced to aerospace engineering methods and techniques to analyse and solve problems within an engineering context.

Learning Outcomes

During this unit, you will cover the below four learning outcomes:

LO1: Describe the features and functions of aerospace structures and the loads they are subjected to
LO2: Quantify the effects of static loads in aerospace structures
LO3: Describe and quantify the effects of dynamic loads in aircraft structures
LO4: Quantify and describe fundamental principles relating to machines and power transmission systems
