What will I study?
This online electrical and electronic engineering course is tailored for those looking to specialise in electrical engineering, either for a career, or for further university study.
The course is split into 6 units. Three of these units are core engineering and are common across each level 4 course.
There are then 2 specialist electrical and electronic engineering units, plus one final optional unit of your choice (a list will be available during enrolment).
During your study you will cover the six units outlined below. You will start by studying the fundamental principles that under-pin all engineering:
Engineering Design and Ethics – to help you to develop your engineering design skills.
Engineering Maths – so that you develop your mathematical skills that you will need to succeed with the rest of your course.
Engineering Science – to give you a grounding in the science that underpins the engineering that you will study.
Electrical & Electronic Engineering Principles – This unit introduces you to properties and characteristics of electrical supplies and semiconductors. While the Electronic section focuses on Analogue and Digital signals, amplifiers and logic gates.
Electrical Machines – Here you begin to study simple robots, construction and applications of Transformers, Motors and Generators so that you can make informed decisions within the engineering context.
+1 Optional Unit – You will have access to a range of optional units, so that you can study topics that interest you. These may even lie outside the field of electrical engineering such as mechanical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering.
To be awarded a Higher International Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EduQual Level 4), you must successfully complete 120 credits at level 4. Each of the 6 units are equally worth 20 credits each.
