Accreditation and Progression

Our Higher International Certificate in Industrial Engineering (EduQual level 4) is a fully accredited 120 credit online qualification in industrial engineering.

We specialise in online engineering courses. Our qualifications in engineering are designed to address an increasing need for high quality professional and technical education pathways at Levels 4 and 5, thereby providing students with a clear line of sight to employment or to progression to a university degree.

Being 120 credits, it is benchmarked to the first year of a UK university engineering programme, and enables a seamless progression onto our higher level 5 diplomas in industrial engineering. You can gain this qualification anywhere in the world with this flexible distance learning course.

What will I study?

This online industrial engineering course is tailored for those looking to specialise in Industrial Engineering, either for a career, or for further university study.

The course is split into 6 units. Three of these units are core engineering and are common across each level 4 course.

There are then 2 specialist industrial engineering units, plus one final optional unit of your choice (a list will be available during enrolment).

During your study you will cover the six units outlined below. You will start by studying the fundamental principles that under-pin all engineering:

Core Units

Engineering Design and Ethics – to help you to develop your mechanical engineering design skills.

Engineering Maths – so that you develop your mathematical skills that you will need to succeed with the rest of your course

Engineering Science – to give you a grounding in the science that underpins the engineering that you will study.

Specialist Units

Manufacturing Engineering Principles – This unit will introduce you to the basics of manufacturing technologies and processes. Within this unit you will also cover key mechanical engineering principles that underpin manufacturing technologies, such as statics and dynamics.

Manufacturing Systems and Lean Manufacturing – Here you will find out what is meant by a manufacturing system and how modern day manufacturing companies operate. You will also learn about the origins of lean manufacturing systems, and how these have evolved into modern day practises, including an introduction to the ‘toolbox’ of process improvement tools.

+1 Optional Unit – You will have access to a range of optional units, so that you can study topics that interest you. These may even lie outside the field of manufacturing engineering such as electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering.

To be awarded a Higher International Certificate in Industrial Engineering (EduQual Level 4), you must successfully complete 120 credits at level 4. Each of the 6 units are equally worth 20 credits each.

Is it fully accredited?

Yes. All our courses are fully accredited by a UK awarding body, EduQual.

EduQual is a regulated awarding body, approved by SQA-Accreditation, and a globally-recognised national qualifications regulator in the UK. They are a full member of the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB).

Are there any entry requirements?

Our level 4 Higher International Certificate courses are all designed to be open courses, meaning there are no pre-request entry requirements.

We have specifically designed our maths and science units so that they start with the very basics and develop your skills up to the required level needed to complete the course.

All our courses are delivered in English language, so you must be competent in learning technical information in English.

How long will it take to complete?

Typically, most learners take between 1 and 2 years when studying on a part time basis.

However, as these are distance learning engineering courses, you are in control of your own learning schedule and so you have the freedom to complete the course in your own timescale. Therefore our online engineering courses can be completed more quickly depending on your existing commitments and/or your existing knowledge.

How am I assessed?

All of our units are assessed by 100% written assignments. There are no exams to sit.

Tutor Support

Throughout the course, you will be given tutor support to help you with any questions or problems you may have on your course. All our tutors are experts in engineering, with many years teaching experience.
